Why Did You Decide to Become a Dentist?

From early on, Dr. Theroux knew that she wanted to work in the healthcare field for her career – but she also wanted a family more than she wanted to be married to a hospital. A friend of hers in college told her about dental school, and it was like a lightbulb turning on in her head! Today, she can’t imagine having any job. She loves the immediate gratification that dentistry brings for her patients, their health, and their sense of self-confidence. She can positively change a smile in a very small amount of time, and that’s always amazing.

Where Did You Study Dentistry?

University of Connecticut dental school building

Dr. Theroux’s college career started at Rhode Island College, where she graduated Summa Cum Laude with her Bachelor of Arts in Biology. Then, she pursued her doctorate at the University of Connecticut School of Dental Medicine in Farmington. Outside of school, she still pursues continuing education courses to keep her clinical skillset sharp, focusing on services like advanced endodontic techniques, dental implant placement, pediatric treatment, Invisalign, CEREC, dental lasers, tongue-tie release, BOTOX, extensive restorative work, and so much more. She also regularly participates in Spear Study Clubs and has even attended some of their seminars. Currently, she is a member of the American Dental Association and the Massachusetts Dental Society.

What Do You Like to Do?

Doctor Theroux and her family

Dr. Theroux is the happily married mother of three daughters. The oldest, Taylor, has graduated from UConn and will hopefully be going to dental school in the Fall of 2021. Melanie studies construction management at Roger Williams University and Brooke is a high-school student who plays volleyball year-round.

Away from her patients, Dr. Theroux’s responsibilities as a wife and a mom keep her very busy! She absolutely loves being on the lake in New Hampshire; in fact, it’s probably her favorite place in the universe. She also stays active and gives her fur babies (Scout, Cooper, and Steel) lots of love. She tries to spend as much time as possible with her parents and grandparents. As for hobbies, she LOVES cooking – it’s so relaxing!
